Potential Rattlers for 2011

The 2011 Baseball America Prospect Handbook is now on my bookshelf.  I had a few moments to page through the Brewers section yesterday.

So, I took to twitter…yes, I am on twitter…and shared the predictions in the Handbook on where the seven members of the Top 30 list who were in either Helena or Maryvale last year will start 2011.

The whole 140 character thing and the reading in reverse order can make it a bit hard to understand….something that this blog does on a daily basis without those limitations…but anyway.

Also, the Handbook went to print before the trade with the Royals, so there are really only 28 current members of the Brewers organization on the top 30 list.  Now that Jake Odorizzi (#1) and Jeremy Jeffress (#3) are with Kansas City, everyone below moves up either one or two spots.  That math has been taken into account for the rankings of the players below.

Enough with the preliminaries.  Here are the predictions:

#6.) Tyler Thornburg: Will probably begin first pro season with Timber Rattlers, but could make push for Brevard County with good a spring.

#8.) Jimmy Nelson: The Brewers will turn Nelson loose as a starter with Timber Rattlers this year.

#11.) Matt Miller: After a strong pro debut, Miller could jump to Brevard County to begin the 2011 season.

#18.) Cody Hawn: Hawn’s makeup and leadership skills impressed the Brewers, who could jump him to Brevard County for 2011.

#19.) Yadiel Rivera: How much improvement Rivera makes in terms of strength and plate discipline will determine where he starts 2011.

#21.) Tyler Roberts: Roberts should get his first full-season test in 2011 with the Timber Rattlers.

#28.) Austin Ross: Ross should make quick work of the Class A level [Timber Rattlers] in 2011.

I know i’m still in the minority on “the trade” but I find it interesting that BA thought the Brewers had the worst farm system…before it.

I can maybe see talent-wise the arguement for Hawn going to BC but there’s not a lot of room there if Dennis & Morris move up is there?

Plus of course I’d really like to see a ’09 Volunteer reunion in July when PJ Polk & the Whitecaps visit!
