Jeff Clement update

Jeff Clement was the third pick in the 2005 draft.  The Seattle Mariners took him out of Southern California and sent him to Wisconsin after he signed.

Clement has some big hits down the stretch and in Wisconsin’s run to the Midwest League Championship series.

You may have noticed when I did the series of posts about former Rattlers in the Majors, AAA, and AA that Clement was not on any rosters.  This story at FoxSports.com by Jon Morosi lets you know why he isn’t active right now…but may be soon:

He is 27 years old. He has a .223 batting average in fewer than 400 major-league plate appearances. On Thursday, when the Milwaukee Brewers announced Braun’s new deal, Clement endured another five-hour day in his rehabilitation program following microfracture surgery on his left knee last September.

Clement likely won’t appear in a game at any level until July at the earliest.

And you would not believe how gracious he is about it all.

That sounds about right for the Jeff Clement I got to know over the second half of the 2005 season.
