The run that clinched the division

No. Really.

  1. You know how you hear good teams talk about stuff like: Playing hard. Never giving in. Different guy coming through every night.  You probably roll your eyes and go, “Yeah. Right.”  Gentle readers, I give you the 2012 Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.
  2. Will West got absolutely pummeled two starts ago in Cedar Rapids.  In his last two starts, he has pitched ten innings with one run allowed.  He pitched his way out of a bases loaded no out situation and only allowed one run.  Max Walla had a key running catch in right field for the first out and held the runners.  (Keep where he was playing when he made that play in mind).
  3. Jacob Barnes struck out nine in five scoreless innings.  He only walked one.  The month-by-month BB:K ratios for Barnes: April – 9:5; May 2:11; June 4:15.  He was outstanding on Tuesday.
  4. Nick Ramirez drove a home run over the wall in center.  It’s “only” 395′, but the wall is 16′ high.  It was impressive.
  5. Yadiel Rivera started the rally in the top of the tenth because…of course he did. He’s not really a different guy tonight, since he had the game winning hits on Sunday and Monday, but well, it’s my post. I’ll talk about him if I want to talk about him.  Rivera didn’t hit the ball well or even have a very good at bat on Tuesday….until the ninth.  He got a chance against a left-hander and I didn’t get a chance to bring up a stat that Jim Breen from Disciples of Uecker pointed out earlier on Tuesday.  That stat being, Yadiel Rivera destroys left-handed pitching.  Including the tenth inning single on Tuesday night, Rivera is now 24-for-69 (.348) against lefties in 2012.
  6. Teams really need to stop hitting Brandon Macias.  He got hit three times in three straight plate appearances on Tuesday night.  Then, he delivered the hit to drive in the go ahead run in the tenth.  He’s got 12 RBI in11 games this month.  Don’t make him angry. You wouldn’t like him when he’s angry.
  7. Walla was at first base in the bottom of the tenth.  This was because Chadwin Stang pinch ran for Ramirez in the ninth and the Rattlers shuffled Stang to Center, John Dishon from center to right and Walla to first to take over for Ramirez.  Of course Walla handled the grounder to first with no worries.
  8. Matt Erickson: “We clinched a playoff spot a couple days ago and that was a team goal of ours from the beginning,” Wisconsin manager Matt Erickson said. “But one of the things I did notice is they weren’t really excited about just getting into the playoffs, they wanted to win the division.”
  9. This picture was taken on after last Friday’s game against Clinton. It showed up on the Rattlers facebook page today.  Thought I would share it.

    Oooooooooh. Ahhhhhhhhh.

    Congratulations, Timber Rattlers.
