1994 Foxes Home Game #5 – April 27

A folder was found during the renovations of Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Inside this folder, an era of Appleton Professional Baseball was rediscovered. The original scoresheets and boxscores from home games of the first half of the 1994 Foxes season. This was the time of Alex Rodriguez, Raul Ibanez, and many other future major league ball players.

Rattler Radio will look back at each of these games from 1994 between now and Opening Day, 2013. Enjoy.

Harikkala got into trouble in the first inning.  A single, sacrifice bunt, and walk put runners on first and second with no outs.  Fitzpatrick sent a fly ball to right.  Both McInnes – the runner at second – and Banks – the runner at first – tried to tag on the play.  Do not run on Marcus Sturdivant!  Banks was thrown out at second base and the inning ended.

Harikkala gave up a two out single to Dobrolsky in the top of the second and Todd Dunn followed with a double to center.  Do not run on Mike Barger or Alex Rodriguez!  Dobrolsky tried to score from first and was cut down at the plate on a Barger-Rodriguez-Sutherland play to end the inning.

The Foxes grabbed the lead in the bottom of the second.  Sutherland singled, stole second, and took third on a one out double by Guevara… (Editor’s note: That’s what it says! It’ doesn’t explain).  Patel drew a walk to load the bases, but Clifford struck out.  That brought up Sturdivant.  The Foxes right fielder singled to drive in Sutherland and Guevara and send Patel to third.  A wild pitch by Salmon let Patel score and the Foxes were up 3-0.

Harikkala settled in with a 1-2-3 3rd, faced the minimum thanks to a 6-4-3 inning ending double play in the 4th, and worked around a walk in the 5th to maintain the 3-0 lead.

The Brewers got on the board in the 6th.  McInnes singled and went to third on a single by Banks.  Banks stole second with McInnes holding at third, but the throw from Sutherland was wild and McInnes scored as Banks took third with one out.  Harikkala got the last two outs to keep the lead at 3-1.

The Snappers threatened again in the 7th after a two-out double by Dunn, but Harikkala got out of the inning again.

Beloit went to the bullpen after the stretch and Chris Schmitt gave up a single to Guevara and a walk to Patel.  The Foxes pulled a double steal to get two runners into scoring position, but Schmitt retired the next two batters.

Beloit went to the bullpen again for Chad Kopitzke to face Barger to keep the score at 3-1.  But, Barger delivered a two-run single to make it 5-1 in favor of the Foxes.

Harikkala went back out for the eighth and pitched a 1-2-3 frame.   He went for the complete game in the ninth and gave up a leadoff single before getting the next two batters.  A single by Dobrolsky kept the game alive, but Harikkala got Dunn to pop out to Clifford at first to close out the game.
