For the second night in a row, the Timber Rattlers got the winning run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth. For the second night in a row, the Timber Rattlers fell just short.

These comebacks are going to start happening for the Rattlers.  They do not give up.  They keep striving and they just keep going after it until the last out…or in this case, the last hit.

I don’t think I have ever seen a game end on a base hit where a runner gets hit by the batted ball for the final out of the game. A new damndest thing I’ve ever seen.

It was great to see Chris McFarland break out on Friday. His 3-for-4 with a triple bumped his average to .247.

The play of the game tonight? Go back to the third inning. Tyrone Taylor had singled with one out. Victor Roache hit a slicing line drive to center. Byron Buxton was in center field and the ball kept tailing away from him. For all the world, the ball looked like it would drop in for at least an RBI double to tie the game 4-4. BUT, Buxton took one final stride, reached out to full extension…..and made the damn catch. The Rattlers would not threaten again until the ninth inning.

Speaking of Buxton…The Rattlers flew out to him seven times on Friday night.

Stay hot, Tyrone Taylor! 2-for-3 with a homer and being hit by a pitch. His numbers in 17 games during the month of June… 30-for-62 with 2 homers, six doubles, one triple, eight RBI, eight walks, 16 runs. OBP: .560; SLG: .710…That’s an OPS of 1.270….That’s pretty good, right?

Michael Reed walked in the first inning to extend his on base streak to 38 games. He has matched Jamal Austin of the High Desert Mavericks for the second longest on base streak in Minor League Baseball this season.

Tyler Wagner with a rough night: Six walks, 88 pitches/48 strikes in four innings.

Mike Strong can rack up the strikeouts when he has everything working. He had four in two innings.

Martin Viramontes worked in his changeup with his Low 90s fastball on Friday and the results were: 3IP, 2H, BB, 7K. His scoreless streak is has reached 10-1/3 innings over four outings. In those 10-1/3 scoreless frames, Viramontes has 17 strikeouts and just three walks. Keep an eye on this.

Defensively, the Rattlers had another errorless game. That’s three straight games – and 28-2/3 innings – without an error for the team.
