Rattlers Alumni Report – October 7, 2013

The playoffs are happening right now.

Former Rattler David Ortiz has made his presence felt for the Red Sox:

And – as of now – Ortiz is the only former Timber Rattlers player on an active roster during the 2013 MLB playoffs. Matt Thornton (BOS), Anthony Varvaro (ATL), and Matt Tuiasosopo (DET) were left off the playoff rosters for their respective teams. Jake Odorizzi (TB) was not eligible for the Rays playoff roster.

The playoffs won’t be the only baseball going on this week. Arizona Fall League play kicks off tomorrow. The Brewers prospects will be playing for the Surprise Saguaros.

Jason Rogers will be trading High Fives in the AFL for the next six weeks.

Former Timber Rattlers for the Saguaros this season are:
RHP Tyler Cravy
RHP David Goforth
RHP Kevin Shackelford
OF Mitch Haniger
OF Jason Rogers

Tyler Cravy is headed to the AFL this season, too.

The Saguaros are made up with prospects from Baltimore, Boston, Cleveland, Texas, and the Brewers. They open the AFL season on Tuesday afternoon against the Peoria Javelinas at home – in this case Surprise Stadium.

Games are played Monday to Saturday with Sunday’s off between October 8 and November 14 with a hitting challenge on October 12, the Rising Stars Game on November 2, and the Championship Game to be held on November 16.

The Winter Leagues in the Caribbean and in Australia won’t be underway for awhile, but we will keep an eye on those for ex-Rattlers, too.

For example, Timber Rattlers trainer Jeff Paxson will be with Licey this year. According to this page, Opening Day there is in eleven days.
