Jerseys of the Rattlers – 2008 Throwbacks
The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers have worn many jerseys since 1995. There have been throwbacks, pinks, camouflage, batting practice, sleeveless, the regular ones that were worn for most games, and a few that you may have forgotten. This feature is to take a look at those jerseys.
This week, the Throwback jerseys that were worn for Sunday home games during the 2008 season.
The jerseys were based on those of the Appleton Papermakers of the 1940s & 1950’s. How do I know they wore them on Sundays….Autograph sessions – like this one held on a chilly day in April – were on Sundays.
I like this shot of the players in the dugout. The player on the left is Alex Liddi. The player in the middle is Ron Garth. I’m not sure which Rattler is hiding his face from the camera, but I thank him for showing off the hat.
So…How close were these jerseys from the originals? Let’s take a look at a photo of a colorized photo of the 1947 Papermakers:
And a photo – a really, really poor one – of a black & white photo of the jerseys from that era:
Here are some action photos of Rattlers wearing the throwbacks:
I like this photo because of the sunglasses on the second baseman. Anachronistic.
I like this shot so much, I think I’ve used it whenever I mention Nathan Adcock on the blog.
I’m still trying to decide on which jersey to pick for next week. Might go to a long time ago and a galaxy far, far away or something from 2009. Tune in next week.
