Tater Tuesday – 2012 Postseason Homers

Welcome to Tater Tuesday on the blog. Each week I’ll take a look at home runs or – as the Great George Scott called them – taters. Usually, this will be home runs by a Timber Rattlers player….But, not this week.

Since the World Series starts tomorrow with Game One at Fenway Park between the Boston Red Sox and the St. Louis Cardinals, this week we will take a look at the home runs hit by the Timber Rattlers during their 2012 postseason.

HR #4

Note: Garza and Rivera went back-to-back to put the Rattlers in front to stay in this game.

HR #5
Timber Rattler: Nick Ramirez
Date: September 9
Opponent: Clinton LumberKings
Home or Away: Home
Opposing Pitcher: Seon-Gi Kim
Inning: Bottom of the 1st
Outs: 2
Score Before Homer: Clinton 2, Wisconsin 0
Type: 2-run
Score After Homer: Wisconsin 2, Clinton 2
Note: Home Run #2 for Ramirez and it tied Game two of the Western Finals 2-2.

HR #6
Timber Rattler: Nick Ramirez
Date: September 13
Opponent: Fort Wayne TinCaps
Home or Away: Home
Opposing Pitcher: Colin Rea
Inning: Bottom of the 4th
Outs: 2
Score Before Homer: Fort Wayne 1, Wisconsin 0
Type: Solo
Score After Homer: Wisconsin 1, Fort Wayne 1
Note: The Rattlers would lose Game Two of the Championship Series 5-1.  This is the only post season game in which they homered that Wisconsin lost.

HR #7
Timber Rattler: Nick Ramirez
Date: September 15
Opponent: Fort Wayne TinCaps
Home or Away: Away
Opposing Pitcher: Frank Garces
Inning: Top of the 4th
Outs: 0
Score Before Homer: Fort Wayne 3, Wisconsin 0
Type: Solo
Score After Homer: Fort Wayne 3, Wisconsin 1
Note: This was a leadoff homer in the 4th inning for Ramirez.  This was also his fourth home run of the 2012 postseason.

HR #8
Timber Rattler: Brandon Macias
Date: September 15
Opponent: Fort Wayne TinCaps
Home or Away: Away
Opposing Pitcher: Cody Hebner
Inning: Top of the 4th
Outs: 2
Score Before Homer: Fort Wayne 3, Wisconsin 2
Type: 3-run
Score After Homer: Wisconsin 5, Fort Wayne 3
Note: In my mind, this was the biggest home run of that post season for the Rattlers.  Hebner had just entered the game as a reliever, Macias crushed this tater, and the Rattlers went on to win Game Three 10-8.

HR #9
Timber Rattler: Max Walla
Date: September 16
Opponent: Fort Wayne TinCaps
Home or Away: Away
Opposing Pitcher: James Needy
Inning: Top of the 2nd
Outs: 2
Score Before Homer: Wisconsin 1, Fort Wayne 0
Type: Solo
Score After Homer: Wisconsin 2, Fort Wayne 0
Note: Speaking of “crushed”…Walla’s homer was way out to right field and the Rattlers had the lead.  Fort Wayne did come back to tie the game, but Wisconsin won Game Four on a two-run double by Ramirez in the seventh inning and the Wisconsin held on for the 4-2 win to clinch the pennant.

NOTE:
The Timber Rattlers pitching staff only allowed four homers in 81 innings pitched during that postseason run.
