Jerseys of the Rattlers – 1996
The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers have worn many jerseys since 1995. There have been throwbacks, pinks, camouflage, batting practice, sleeveless, the regular ones that were worn for most games, and a few that you may have forgotten. This feature is to take a look at those jerseys.
Since David Ortiz hit a home run in Game One of the World Series last night, here’s a look at the 1996 season. That would be the year Ortiz played – as David Arias – for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.
There aren’t a lot of pictures of the 1996 team in our archives. So, I went to the baseball cards of that year. Fortunately, there were a couple of players that wore their BP tops and others that wore the home pinstripes for their cards. Let’s take a look.
First up, the BP Tops. All Black with the team logo in a BIG CIRCLE!
Here are a sheet of cards featuring the home jerseys. The patch on the left sleeve is the All-Star Game Logo. The Timber Rattlers hosted that game in 1996. You can best make out the logo on the cards of Theodoro Medrano, Joel Ramirez, and Chad Sheffer.
This sheet of cards was selected to show off the poses of the players over the uniforms. My favorite is the Chad Soden card. He’s still holding on to the baseball. Had he been throwing that baseball it would have hit the dirt right around his plant foot.
Here’s Big Papi as a Timber Rattler:
I only chose this last card for the perfect juxtaposition between baseball cards and minor league baseball. Jon Vanof on an ATV:
