Jerseys of the Rattlers – 1997 Throwbacks
The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers have worn many jerseys since 1995. There have been throwbacks, pinks, camouflage, batting practice, sleeveless, the regular ones that were worn for most games, and a few that you may have forgotten. This feature is to take a look at those jerseys.
The 1997 Timber Rattlers celebrated decided to wear throwbacks to the 1947 Appleton Papermakers. The team wore these throwbacks for every Friday home game. This was captured for posterity in one of my favorite team photos of all time.
I wanted to crop out the extraneous material and focus in on the team.
There are a couple of things that pop in this next shot. First, yes, the jerseys have pinstripes. Next, take a look at the socks on the grouping of five players in the front row. They aren’t socks, they are stirrups and that completes the look. Also, the best look of the Apple logo on the left sleeve is seen best on the player who is second from the right. That player is Brian Fuentes.
Over on the left is a good representation of the Throwback caps. The hat design, but not the jersey design, was reused for the Papermakers Throwback jerseys in 2008.
Here is a look at the ‘A’ on the left chest. Also, can you guess which of these players are hitters and which are pitchers? No hints….GO!
Additionally, since this photo was taken in front of the stadium in 1997, you can really tell the changes to that area since that time.
