Tater Tuesday – Shawn McCorkle (2000)

Welcome to Tater Tuesday on the blog. Each week I’ll take a look at home runs or – as the Great George Scott called them – taters. Usually, this will be home runs by a Timber Rattlers player.

Shawn McCorkle, a Timber Rattlers first baseman in 2000, is the subject this week.

McCorkle also stole FOUR BASES in 2000.

McCorkle also stole FOUR BASES in 2000.

McCorkle hit seventeen home runs for the Rattlers during that regular season and added one in the playoffs.  He finished second on the team in home runs that season.

NOTES:
The first three homers have information missing due to me being gone for my announcing job with the Green Bay Gamblers.

Shawn McCorkle and Leone went back-to-back with home runs on June 30.

Leone and McCorkle also accounted for the only two runs July 2 game against Kane County.  Both hit solo homers off Josh Beckett in a 2-0 win.  JJ Putz tossed a complete game shutout for the Timber Rattlers in that game.

McCorkle hit eleven of his seventeen regular season homers on the road.  He started the season in the lower part of the order before moving up into the #3 spot in the lineup for the majority of the season.

McCorkle, a 7th round pick in 1998 out of Mount Clair State, was a midseason All-Star.  He was also named the MWL’s Postseason All-Star First Baseman.  McCorkle played the 2001 season for San Bernardino, Seattle’s California League affiliate, but was let go before the 2002 season started.
