Wild Card Wednesday – Oakland A’s
Wild Card Wednesday returns in 2014 with a look at the Oakland Athletics and their glorious uniforms!
Their Glorious Golden Uniforms!
The Gene Tenace card is from 1972. The Sal Bando card is from 1976. Yes. I crossed out A’s and put in Brewers when he signed with Milwaukee on November 19, 1976.
I knew that Tony Armas, Wayne Gross, and Dwayne Murphy were with Oakland for awhile…but for that long?
This series shows the progression of style in both hairdos and facial hair. Dick Bosman goes from straight hair and clean-shaven in 1976 to a perm and a mustache in 1977. Jeff Jones and Mike Norris both go from clean-shaven to mustachioed. Jim Todd goes from mustache to full beard.
This series of cards could be used for a battery in an A’s game in all three seasons shown.
Don’t stare at the Dave McKay cards too long. You will lose track of time.
The 1978 A’s don’t believe in everyone wearing the same uniform for the team photo. Top Row: Gold-Green-Gold-Green-Gold-Green-Gold-Green-Gold…The coaching staff in the center going with the white jerseys and the guy on the far right is wearing the white hat with the gold jersey….INDIVIDUALS!!!
Rickey doesn’t have time to do more than one photo shoot a year.
Let’s take a look at the back of this card:
