Tater Tuesday – Joe Dunigan (2008)

Welcome to Tater Tuesday on the blog. Each week I’ll take a look at home runs or – as the Great George Scott called them – taters. Usually, this will be home runs by a Timber Rattlers player.

Joe Dunigan was the 5th round pick of the Seattle Mariners in 2007.  He spent all of 2008 with the Timber Rattlers. Dunigan led the team in homers with 14 during the final season Wisconsin was affiliated with Seattle.

His path to 14 home runs wasn’t easy, but once he got in the groove, it was something to see.

It was a tale of two halves for Dunigan.  He hit .212 with three homers and 16 RBI in the first half.  He launched 11 homers with 42 RBI and a .258 average.

Dunigan’s home/road splits for average, homers, and RBI were almost identical.  In 59 home games he hit .239 with seven homers and drove in 29 runs.  In 60 road games, he hit .240 with seven homers and drove in 29 runs.

Dunigan has hit 110 home runs in his professional career.  He hit 30 in 2009 at High Desert in the California League.

He was with Tacoma at Triple-A to start the 2013 season, but was hit in the face with a pitch on April 18.  Dunigan was interviewed by Chris Harris of the Jackson Generals on August 1 of last year.  You can see the interview at this post.
