Canada made it through Pool play of the Premier 12 tournament unbeaten.  But, they lost 4-3 to Mexico in a quarterfinal game.  Mexico scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning to erase a 3-1 lead for Canada.

This is kind of amazing:

The three-run rally gave Mexico the win and put it into the semifinals in a major world baseball championship for the first time since 1965.

The Dutch team was 3-2 in Pool Play.  They lost 6-1 to Team USA in the quarterfinals.

Majestic…er, Premier 12 Tournament

There is a pretty big international baseball tournament taking place now.  The 2015 WBSC PREMIER12 is being held in Taiwan and Japan from now until November 21.

I may have missed a few, but there are nine former Timber Rattlers on the rosters of participating teams.

TEAM CANADA has the most:
RHP Phillippe Aumont
C Dustin Houle
OF Brock Kjeldgaard
IF Taylor Green

C Shawn Zarraga
OF Wladimir Balentien
OF Kalian Sams

TEAM MEXICO has two:
RHP Martin Viramontes
IF Brandon Macias

Martin Viramontes as a Timber Rattler in 2013.

Martin Viramontes as a Timber Rattler in 2013.

The Dutch beat Taiwan on Day 2 of the tournament 7-4. Sams went 4-for-5 with two doubles, Zarraga was 0-fpr-3 with a walk and an RBI, and Balentien was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk.

Earlier today….or tomorrow across the International Date Line as the case may be, Mexico beat Venezuela 6-4 and Viramontes earned the win with an inning of scoreless, hitless relief in the bottom of the seventh as Mexico broke a 4-4 tie with two runs in the top of the eighth. Macias went 0-for-3 with an RBI. The RBI for Macias came when he reached on an error in the eighth to knock in Mexico’s second run of the inning.

Baseball Canada reports that Canada beat Cuba 5-1.

Majestic 12 would have been a cool name for this tournament…but, it was already taken.
